Harry Kane’s record-breaking goal earns Tottenham a hard-earned 1-0 victory over title holders, Manchester City.
The team clad in red and black hold the majority of the ball from kick-off, excluding a rapid attempt on goal from Heung-Min Son, who is halted by an attentive defence. However, in the game’s 15th minute, defensive midfielder Rodri misplaces a pass to Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. The number 5 plays the ball into Kane, who inevitably blasts the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. The lilywhites huddle as fans and players rejoice for the player’s 267th club goal, overtaking the previous record holder, Jimmy Greaves.

Manchester City are not discouraged as they continue their attack, hoarding possession. Tottenham sit back and stay tight up the middle, all in the name of keeping Erling Haaland at bay. Romero takes this a bit too literally with a needless tackle that rewards him with a yellow card.
Moments before halftime, Mahrez’s collected shot from Grealish seems hopeful for the sky blues, only to be denied by the crossbar. Soon after half-time, the right-winger is replaced with Kevin De Bruyne, much to fans’ confusion.
A Son-Kane link-up is near successful in the 77th minute, the South Korean collecting a missed header from De Bruyne and firing at goal. It’s initially saved by Ederson but quickly picked up by Kane who clips the ball back to Højbjerg. The ball steers narrowly wide of the post. Both teams persist in their plights on goal, unlike many other performances this season, Tottenham are determined and press for the ball.
Romero’s earlier recklessness towards Haaland, and then Grealish earns him a red card in the 87th minute. Now down to ten men heading into five minutes of extra time, nails are being bitten and knees are shaking as Tottenham are putting their all into maintaining victory.

Passion seems to be coursing through the lilywhites, even in the gaffer’s absence. Whether powered by choruses of ‘Oh When the Spurs Go Marching In’, or by Tottenham’s newest top goal scorer is unclear. Whatever it is, it certainly causes Emerson Royal- the brunt of many jokes and defeats this season- to turn it into top gear, facing Grealish fiercely one-on-one.
In the end, it’s all parties and celebrations for Spurs as they revel in this historical moment. However, for the sky blues, it’s a long trip back to Manchester as they still have yet to score at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

My thoughts and some facts about today's game
Player Appreciation: Emerson Royal played the best I've ever seen him today. Ever since the Fulham game, he's been improving and it's really reassuring to see. Especially when we went down to ten men, he knew he had to hold his own, and he definitely did when going one-on-one against Jack Grealish. Obviously, Harry is the man of the moment, but Royal's performance is not to be overlooked- he knew he had a job to do and he executed it well.
Quick Stats: Before playing Manchester City today, Tottenham had lost four out of their last five home games. Yikes.
King Kane: Harry Kane's goal today also counted as his 200th in the Premier League. That's eight behind Wayne Rooney...still a while to catch up to Shearer's 260, though.
